A Bright Day for Individuals with Down Syndrome
March 21 is celebrated as World Down Syndrome Day across Ukraine and around the globe.
In Odessa, there are over 150 individuals living with Down syndrome. To raise awareness and combat stereotypes regarding individuals with Down syndrome, a photo exhibition showcasing families from Odessa with members who have this genetic condition has been organized at the Center for Integrated Social Services.
The event was addressed by the Director of the Department of Labor and Social Policy of the Odessa City Council, Olena Kytainska, who wished everyone peace, harmony, and patience.
Lidiya Ostrogladova, a mother of two children with Down syndrome, expressed gratitude for the attention and assistance in addressing issues facing individuals with disabilities.
Additionally, representatives from the organizations “Future Guarantee,” “Special Children,” and “Healthy Society” participated in the event.
At the end of the meeting, representatives of the Department of Labor and Social Policy presented special guests with gifts.
Furthermore, employees from Odessa's district social protection departments joined the global flash mob “Colorful Socks,” attaching an odd number of colorful socks to their outerwear as a symbol of the extra chromosome.
