Recognition for Activist: Mariluise Beck Receives Award
Mariluise Beck, a German politician and director of Eastern and Central Europe at the Centre for Liberal Modernity, has been awarded the Honorary Award from the Mayor of Odessa «ODESSA» for her significant contributions to humanitarian activities, support for Odessa residents during wartime, and fostering international cooperation.
Under her initiative, the memorial project «Against Forgetting» was developed on Lustdorfskaya Road, a site where over 25,000 people, primarily of Jewish and Romani descent, were burned alive in 1941.
A grant of one million euros was secured for its implementation. However, due to the war, the work had to be postponed, and the funds were redirected to humanitarian needs of the city.
This allowed Odessa to receive transportation, specialized equipment, generators, medical supplies, and other critically important resources.
The city authorities express gratitude for the support and hope for the realization of pre-war projects and continued cooperation for the development of Odessa.
