New Opportunities for Social Taxi in Odesa

The city of Odesa has received a significant humanitarian shipment consisting of two Mercedes-Benz Sprinter minibuses from its sister city, Regensburg.

These minibuses will be utilized by territorial centers for social services as part of the municipal initiative «Social Taxi».

While the vehicles are already adapted for transporting persons with disabilities, they require additional specialized equipment for the comfortable transport of wheelchair users.

The «Social Taxi» initiative is being implemented by the Odesa City Council in collaboration with the NGO «Barrier-Free», aiming to provide specialized transportation for individuals with disabilities to essential institutions.

Currently, there are six specialized vehicles operating in Odesa, and the service is in high demand, with over 1200 applications processed. The new minibuses provided by Regensburg will allow for an increase in transportation capacity and expand service opportunities.

Odesa Mayor Hennadiy Trukhanov expressed gratitude to Regensburg, stating, «This is not just transportation. It is an opportunity for people with disabilities to access necessary services, feel mobile and independent.»
