Surge in Gambling Addiction in Ukraine: Latest Statistics

25 April 2025

In the past year, Ukraine has seen a significant increase in the number of individuals suffering from gambling addiction. According to the Gamblers' Registry, there are currently 12,807 Ukrainians registered.

This information was reported by the "Opendatabot" service.

Throughout the last year, the registry gained 9,389 new members, while 1,496 were removed due to the expiration of their restriction period.

Since the creation of the registry, a total of 14,979 individuals have been registered, of which 2,172 have already been removed.

It is noted that 99% of all entries in the Registry are voluntary applications. Individuals submit requests for self-restriction to temporarily close their access to gambling establishments and participating in gambling activities. The term of such restrictions ranges from six months to three years.

Only 1% consists of individuals whose access was limited by a decision of the KRAIL. Throughout the existence of the registry, there have been 169 such decisions, nearly all made last year.

Last year, an average of 780 individuals were added to the registry each month, which is 2.8 times more than in 2023, when about 280 individuals were added monthly. The highest number of self-restriction applications was received in April – 1,041, and the lowest in June – 524.

In the first two months of 2025, 1,719 individuals have already been added to the Registry, averaging 860 per month, which is 10% more than in 2024.

Opendatabot emphasized that currently, there is no clear statistic regarding the actual number of citizens with gambling addiction in Ukraine, and the figures from the registry do not reflect the full picture, particularly concerning individuals who play in online casinos.
