Arrest Made in City Center Theft

A perpetrator approached a victim in the city center under the pretense of conversation, then seized valuable jewelry at the right moment. The suspect has a long criminal record, having spent over 11 years in prison, and now faces up to 10 years behind bars.

A 33-year-old man reported the robbery to the police. Law enforcement quickly responded to the call and apprehended the offender, who was hiding in an apartment building entrance.

According to Irina Yablonska, deputy head of the investigative department, the criminal noticed a gold chain with a cross around the neck of an unfamiliar local, initiated a conversation, and then abruptly snatched the jewelry and fled.

The total value of the stolen property amounted to 35,000 UAH, but the suspect was unable to use the items. He refused to provide any explanations regarding his illegal actions.

The arrested individual had prior convictions for thefts and robberies. Overall, he has spent more than 11 years incarcerated.

“We have informed him of the charges for the repeated theft during martial law. According to Article 186 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine, this crime can lead to a sentence of up to 10 years. The suspect is in temporary detention, and we are considering a preventive measure of custody,” said Police Captain Irina Yablonska.

The investigation is ongoing under the supervision of the Chornomorsk District Prosecutor's Office.
