Fraudster Under Investigation for Scamming Trusting Citizens

23 April 2025

Investigators have completed their inquiry into a woman who defrauded citizens of over 48 thousand hryvnias. The indictment has been sent to court, and the offender faces imprisonment.

The fraudster operated in a market in the Peresyp district, posing as a specialist in gadget and household appliance repairs. She offered her services, tricking five unsuspecting individuals into handing over their phones, tablets, and a robot vacuum for repairs. Promising to return the items quickly, the "expert" disappeared with the tech.

This deception resulted in losses exceeding 48 thousand hryvnias for the victims.

When they did not receive their belongings back, the victims reported the matter to the police. Officers from Police Station No. 2 of the Odessa District Police Department No. 1 quickly identified and located the perpetrator, a 36-year-old local woman. She had managed to sell the vacuum and two phones, but the police were able to recover all items and return them to their owners.

Investigators gathered enough evidence to charge her under parts 1 and 2 of Article 190 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine for fraud through deception, particularly repeated offenses. The indictment has been submitted to the court, and the fraudster faces up to three years in prison.

The investigation was conducted under the supervision of the Suvorov District Prosecutor's Office of Odessa.

Police urge citizens to be more cautious and to seek services from verified specialists and official service centers.
