Accidental Shooting in Odesa: Grandmother Injures Granddaughter

In the Odesa region, a tragic incident unfolded when a 50-year-old woman accidentally injured her 5-year-old granddaughter while attempting to conceal an air rifle. The National Police of Ukraine reported this incident.

On April 20, during the day, medical personnel informed the police about the hospitalization of the girl in the regional children's hospital due to injuries to her lower jaw and neck. Law enforcement officials discovered that the woman from the Izmail district was trying to hide the weapon from her grandchildren, but accidentally fired it, injuring her little granddaughter who was nearby.

The investigators of the Izmail district police department registered information about the child's injury in the Unified Register of Pre-Trial Investigations under Article 128 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine, which pertains to careless infliction of serious bodily injury. The maximum penalty for this offense can be up to two years of imprisonment.

"As part of the investigation, a number of forensic examinations have been appointed, and the full circumstances of the incident are being established. The investigation is ongoing under the procedural guidance of the Izmail District Prosecutor's Office" - the statement said.
