Decline in Cargo Handling at Ukrainian Ports in 2025

In the first quarter of 2025, Ukrainian ports processed 23 million tons of cargo, which is 4.8 million tons less than in the same period last year.

This is reported by the Administration of Sea Ports of Ukraine.

According to AMPU, the largest volumes of cargo handling are in the ports of Greater Odesa. Since the beginning of the year, they have processed 20.7 million tons of cargo. In particular, the Pivdennyi Port handled 10.6 million tons, the Chornomorsk Port - 6.6 million tons, and the Odesa Port - 3.5 million tons.

The ports of the Danube region - Izmail, Reni, and Ust-Dunaisk - together handled over 2.3 million tons of cargo.

"The decrease in cargo turnover is linked to the reduction of agricultural lands and a decline in production in export-oriented industries, particularly metallurgy, which exported up to 80% of its products before the war," AMPU explained.

It is noted that globally, cargo handling is also declining due to market instability and disruptions in logistics.

• Ukraine's cargo turnover in 2024 grew by 13% compared to 2023, reaching $112.3 billion (in 2023 - $99.4 billion, in 2022 - $99.7 billion).
• During January-March, Ukraine imported goods worth $18.5 billion and exported goods worth $9.9 billion.
