Fatal Incident in Odessa: Tenant Charged with Murder

During a gathering, an intoxicated tenant inflicted fatal stab wounds on the landlord and fled to the capital. For this crime, he will spend nine years behind bars.

The event occurred in March of last year at the apartment of a 63-year-old Odessan on Breus Street. When the man stopped answering calls from friends, they sought help from the police. Upon arrival, authorities found the deceased in his home.

Initial investigative actions revealed that a 53-year-old resident from another region, who had rented a room from the victim, was involved in the death.

Investigators found that the day before the body was discovered, a conflict arose during a drunken discussion between the men due to differing views on life, during which the tenant stabbed the homeowner in the chest and back. After the act, the perpetrator left the victim and fled to Kyiv, where he was soon apprehended by police.

Crime scene investigators used a mobile DNA lab to analyze biological traces collected during the initial investigation and samples from the victim and the suspect. The results confirmed the latter's involvement in the crime. According to the forensic examination, the cause of death was penetrating stab wounds to the chest, causing lung damage and bleeding into the pleural cavities.

As stated by the head of Police Department No. 1 of the Odessa District Police, Mykola Kulchytskyi, the perpetrator was taken into custody at the request of the police. After gathering sufficient evidence, investigators charged him with intentional murder and submitted the indictment to court under Part 1 of Article 115 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine.

After reviewing the case materials and evidence provided by law enforcement, the court found the accused guilty of murdering the landlord and imposed a sentence of nine years in prison. He admitted his guilt and sincerely repented for his actions.
