Preventing Dangerous Activities of Teenagers on Railways

10 April 2025

The Juvenile Police of Ukraine and Ukrzaliznytsia are collaborating to prevent the dangerous trend of teenagers engaging in ‘catching’ on trains.

Teens, in search of thrills, climb onto train roofs, grab onto moving trains, and cross tracks in restricted areas.

This is not extreme; it poses real threats to life and health: fatal injuries, amputations, electrocution.

From April 10 to May 10, 2025, a joint preventive campaign by the Juvenile Police of Ukraine and Ukrzaliznytsia will kick off.
Throughout the month:

  • we will visit schools and vocational institutions
  •
  • we will speak openly and accessibly with children
  •
  • along with experts, we will explain why the railway is not a place for games!

What to do if you witness dangerous behavior of children at the railway?

If you are at a station and see children who:

  • are trying to climb onto a train
  •
  • are already on the roof
  •
  • are playing near the tracks

 Act immediately, but cautiously.

Inform the station attendant or any railway worker.

Call the police (102) or emergency services (101) — specialists will respond promptly.

Caution or call out to the kids planning to catch or already in a dangerous area.

Document the incident and the individuals involved — this will aid in identification and informing parents.

Be attentive to your children. Discuss the real risks with them!
