Negligence by Official Leads to Environmental Disaster
The inactivity of the official has led to severe environmental issues, including multiple incidents of spontaneous combustion of waste and widespread fires. Firefighters spent over a week extinguishing the flames. The accused may face up to 5 years in prison, as reported by the police.
Investigators found that the director of the municipal enterprise responsible for waste collection failed to adhere to regulations regarding landfill maintenance. Specifically, he did not implement appropriate measures for gas extraction from decomposing waste and did not secure the landfill.
This negligence resulted in significant repercussions, including repeated fires that spread over a vast area, requiring over a week for containment. According to experts, the damage caused by air pollution exceeded 4 million 750 thousand UAH.
"After gathering sufficient evidence, investigators charged the individual under two articles of the Criminal Code of Ukraine: negligence (part 2 of article 367) and air pollution with hazardous substances (part 2 of article 241)", stated Andriy Donets, head of the Odessa District Police Department No. 2.
«The accused faces up to five years imprisonment, along with a ban from holding certain positions for up to three years. The pre-trial investigation, which was conducted under the procedural guidance of the Bilayaivka District Prosecutor's Office, has been completed, and the indictment has been sent to court», added Colonel Andriy Donets.
