Gas Imports in Ukraine: New Challenges and Opportunities
Since the beginning of 2025, the "Naftogaz" group has imported about 800 million cubic meters of gas due to hostile attacks and a decline in production.
This was reported by the press service of "Naftogaz".
Roman Chumak, acting head of Naftogaz, noted during a meeting with the Japanese ambassador to Ukraine, Masashi Nakagome, that these volumes are a response to losses from the attacks.
"As a result of the bombardments, part of the gas production was lost, so the priority task is to restore the damaged facilities and resume production before the next heating season.
At the same time, the Group continues to import gas to offset losses and build sufficient reserves – since the beginning of the year, about 800 million cubic meters of gas have been imported," the statement said.
Naftogaz also stated that work is ongoing with the government and international partners to find financing opportunities for the necessary gas volumes for the upcoming winter.
As a reminder:
Ukraine may import a record 5 billion cubic meters of gas from Europe due to Russian attacks on energy infrastructure and depletion of reserves.
