Energy Project in Odessa

The municipality of Odessa, in collaboration with the Japanese government and UNDP, as well as with support from international partners from Norway and Sweden, is implementing a project to construct energy generation facilities based on gas engine technology with a total capacity of about 30 MW.

This initiative is part of the decentralization process aimed at enhancing the resilience and security of Odessa's energy sector.

The first cogeneration unit has been connected and is already providing energy to one of the city's boiler houses.

«This unit is capable of producing 3.3 MW per hour. The boiler requires about half of that capacity. In the future, we plan to redirect the surplus to support other critical infrastructure facilities,» noted the Mayor of Odessa.

Currently, work is ongoing to connect three more cogeneration units that have already been delivered to the city. In total, 9 units with a capacity of 30 MW will be manufactured for Odessa.

Additionally, Odessa has received 7 cogeneration units from the German agency GIZ. They will be installed at district boiler houses, with two already in the connection process. Soon, components for the connection of the remaining five units will arrive.
