Mental Health Support Forum in Ukraine

28 November 2024

The resilience of individuals is closely connected to the strength of the systems they belong to. This significant message was highlighted at the Mental Health Forum, which took place from November 26 to 28 in Kyiv. Over three days, experts, government officials, community representatives, and international partners discussed ways to establish an effective mental health support system in Ukraine.

Odesa region actively participated in this crucial dialogue, showcasing its contributions to the nationwide mental health program «How are you?» initiated by the First Lady Olena Zelenska.

The region was represented at the forum by:

  • – Dmytro Radulov, Deputy Head of the Odesa Regional State Administration,
  • – Anna Velichko, regional coordinator of the «How are you?» program in Odesa,
  • – Margarita Bespalko, consultant in the Dobroslav community,
  • – Valentina Vitos, Director of the Odesa Regional Center for Ukrainian Culture.

During the opening of the forum, Olena Zelenska emphasized: «I thank everyone who, in various sectors and conditions, with diverse experiences, contributes to a common cause – enveloping Ukrainians with care and providing them with moral strength. Unfortunately, we cannot heal all wounds. But we can offer everyone in pain a sense of support, understanding, and compassion».

Ukraine is studying international experiences while simultaneously creating a unique system that meets the challenges of our time.

A point of pride for Odesa is the award received by the Odesa Regional Center for Ukrainian Culture for active participation in the «How are you?» program.

The forum also presented the spectrum of services offered by the state for mental health support and discussed new legislative initiatives in this area.

The forum was organized with the support of WHO, the Coordination Center of the Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine / Mental Health UA, and international partners from the Netherlands, Canada, and France. Ukraine is confidently moving towards establishing a system that cares for everyone.
