A New Era of Justice for Children in Ukraine
On November 28, an important event took place in the capital of Ukraine, marking a significant step towards a judicial system where children's rights are prioritized.
The seminar, dedicated to the launch of a project aimed at training judges for family law cases, gathered top experts and international partners to initiate changes that could profoundly affect the lives of many children.
Why is this significant?
Imagine a court where decisions are made considering children's interests, where a judge not only understands the law but also takes into account the psychological aspects of child development and listens to their voices.
This will become a reality through the initiative to specialize judges, supported by the Civil Cassation Court, the inter-agency council on juvenile matters, UNICEF, and the All-Ukrainian Volunteer Center.
Three key steps for implementation:
- Pilot courts will introduce specialization—judges will undergo specialized training and work in teams with psychologists, lawyers, and guardianship agencies.
- Training programs for specialists on creating a safe family environment and children's rights.
- Court facilities will become more child-friendly—special rooms will be created to minimize stress for the youngest participants.
This pilot project is just the beginning. Its success could lay the groundwork for future legislative changes and the development of a judicial system centered on the child.
This is more than just reforms. It's about humanity, care, and creating a world where every child feels safe.
