Arrest of Odesa Resident for Medical Bribery
Under the procedural guidance of the Odesa Regional Prosecutor's Office, a 57-year-old resident of Odesa has been charged with receiving illegal benefits for influencing a decision by an authorized state official (part 2 of Article 369-2 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine).
According to the investigation, the suspect, leveraging his connections among municipal and regional clinical hospitals, offered a conscripted individual to ‘resolve the issue’ regarding the acquisition of medical documents necessary for determining disability status.
The perpetrator assured that he could ‘assist’ in the expedited processing of the required documentation and ensure the subsequent receipt of a pension certificate for a fee of 8,000 US dollars.
Law enforcement officials detained the suspect while he was receiving the first part of the bribe – 6,500 US dollars.
The complete list of participants involved in this illegal earning scheme is being established.
Measures to expose this criminal activity were conducted by prosecutors in cooperation with investigators and with operational support from the relevant law enforcement agencies.
Note: According to Article 62 of the Constitution of Ukraine, a person is considered innocent of committing a crime and cannot be subjected to criminal punishment until their guilt is proven in a lawful manner by a court conviction.
