Doctor Suspected of Bribery in Odessa

Under the supervision of the Kyiv District Prosecutor's Office in Odessa, a neurologist has been exposed and charged with receiving illegal benefits for influencing decisions made by a person authorized to perform state functions (Part 3 of Article 369-2 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine).

According to the investigation, the doctor promised a serviceman that he could «resolve the issue» regarding the serviceman's discharge from duty due to health reasons. He claimed he could influence members of the military medical commission, create the necessary medical history, and extend the serviceman's hospital treatment.

The doctor valued his «services» at 4500 US dollars, demanding an advance payment of 3000 dollars, with the remainder to be paid upon the completion of treatment.

He was arrested in his office while receiving the first part of the bribe.

The full circle of individuals involved in the illegal earnings scheme is being established.

The preliminary investigation is conducted by the SV ORUP No. 1 of the Main Directorate of the National Police in the Odessa region, with operational support from the Odessa Division of the National Police's DWB.

Note: According to Article 62 of the Constitution of Ukraine, a person is presumed innocent of committing a crime and cannot be subjected to criminal punishment until their guilt is proven in a lawful manner and established by a court verdict.
