Assault on Soldier in Odesa: Incident Details

On February 22, an incident occurred on Italian Boulevard resulting in injuries to a soldier. Police have apprehended the suspect.

Preliminary reports indicate that a 28-year-old man from the Berezivskyi district initiated a conflict with military personnel during a document check.

The man sprayed tear gas in the face of one of the soldiers and fired several shots at him with what is presumed to be a traumatic weapon before fleeing. The victim was taken to a medical facility,
– stated the police.

Furthermore, it was noted that operatives detained the offender, who has been handed over to the SBU investigators.

Response from the TCC

  • The Odesa regional TCC has already responded to the assault on the soldier, stating that the 28-year-old man refused to comply with the lawful demands of military personnel to present his military registration documents.
  • "He sprayed tear gas in the face of one soldier, fired several shots in his direction with a weapon (presumably traumatic), then attempted to flee," – stated the TCC.
  • The SBU has initiated criminal proceedings under Article 114-1 of the Criminal Code for interference with the lawful activities of the Armed Forces of Ukraine during a special period. The TCC noted that such actions are classified as particularly serious crimes, which entail the harshest penalties. The materials have been forwarded to the court for the imposition of preventive measures.
  • Additionally, the TCC emphasized that violence against military personnel is unacceptable, and mobilization is the duty of every citizen.
  • "Citizens must understand that any acts of resistance against military administration directly affect the nation's defense capability," – underscored the TCC.
