UN Delegation Visits Odesa

15 October 2024

A delegation from the UN Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs is currently in Odesa, led by the humanitarian coordinator Mr. Matthias Schmale.

Today, October 15, 2024, delegation members visited the city’s Social and Psychological Support Center for internally displaced persons and those affected by armed conflict, where around 100 displaced individuals currently reside.

UN representatives assessed the living conditions, spoke with the displaced individuals and the Center’s staff.

The Center is equipped with living quarters, a psychologist's office, children's rooms for learning and recreation, large laundry facilities, a kitchen, a dining hall, and an assembly hall.

Regular workshops and various activities for children are conducted at the Center. Adults have the opportunity to learn a profession and find employment.

According to the Center's staff, charitable organizations and international missions provide comprehensive assistance to the people temporarily living here.

«We are concerned about the assistance to internally displaced persons. I see that comfortable living conditions have been created for those who had to leave their homes. This Center is among the best in Ukraine», said Mr. Matthias Schmale.

Advisor to the Odesa Mayor on social and humanitarian issues, Veronika Etnarovich, noted that the possibility of establishing another such Center in Odesa is currently being explored.
