Revitalizing Electric Transport in Odessa

The modernization of electric transport in Odessa is a key focus for the city authorities. 

Every day, around 80 tram cars operate on 13 routes. The most frequented route is number 7, while the lesser-used route number 20 is serviced by only two trams. 

On September 30, 2024, another fully refurbished Tatra T3 tram entered service. 

«Despite the war, we continue to enhance public transport in Odessa. This tram was renovated using the company's own funds, costing 4 million hryvnias, while a new tram starts at 18 million hryvnias. I appreciate the team's hard work during these challenging times», said the mayor of Odessa, Gennadiy Trukhanov. 

The refurbished tram has been completely updated inside and out and features a new control system that improves efficiency by 40%. 

The mayor also mentioned that they are exploring the possibility of equipping older Tatra models with mechanisms to assist wheelchair users.

The Tatra T3 tram was repaired at the workshops of KP «Odessmiskelektrotrans» using the company's own funds. This project serves as a prime example of quality capital repair.  
For the first time during capital repairs, the interior and driver's cabin were upgraded, new seating was installed, and a new heating and air conditioning system was added. The glass was installed using a bonding method, similar to retrofitting. Plans are in place to complete another similar tram by the end of 2024, and two more in 2025. 
Additionally, at the beginning of 2024, two units of the Tatra T-3-Od model were repaired and are successfully operating on the «North – South» route. They underwent a major restoration with the replacement of the control system (TISK) financed by the budget. 
In 2025, similar major restoration and retrofitting are planned for four more trams.
