Elevator Modernization in Odesa: Innovations and 2024 Plans
In 2024, the city program plans to replace 91 elevators, contingent on budget funding. Currently, 44 elevators have been repaired, which had been in service for over 25 years.
The cost of replacing one elevator now ranges from 1.5 to 2.3 million UAH, depending on the building's height and weight capacity. On average, the repair of an elevator takes up to two months.
According to the Department of Urban Development, new elevators have been installed in residential buildings at the following addresses: Nebesnoi Sotni St., 6; Hlodan Family St. (Ilf and Petrov), 17 and 29; Academician Zabolotny St., 49; Prince Yaroslav the Wise Ave. (Academician Hlushko), 34 and 11; and Lustdorf Road, 164.
Experts say that modern elevators are 40% more energy-efficient. In case of a power outage, emergency evacuation for residents is provided, allowing them to reach the nearest floor safely and minimizing the risk of being stuck in the elevator.
Since 2016, over 1,500 elevators have been replaced in Odesa. Due to the full-scale invasion, the city's elevator restoration program was temporarily halted, but work has resumed as of early 2024.
Additional Information
All new elevators are equipped with modern technology: frequency regulation for smooth door operations and movement control systems that extend the lifespan of the main motor. This equipment enables the use of lower-powered motors, saving electricity and reducing load on the elevator's structural elements, while also enhancing user comfort.
The cabins of all modernized and new elevators are lined with vandal-proof materials – powder-coated metal, providing excellent protection against mechanical damage. Additionally, cabins are fitted with vandal-resistant lights and metal buttons that cannot be ignited or removed. Mirrors and handrails are installed in all elevators.
