New Railway Travel Program for Ukrainians
In just three weeks since the launch of the “3000 km across Ukraine” initiative, thousands of Ukrainians have taken advantage of it, purchasing 40,000 train tickets. This translates to transporting passengers equivalent to about 740 economy class or 1,111 sleeper cars.
Among the more than 20 available routes, the most popular ones include:
- Fastiv — Konotop
- Odesa — Zaporizhzhia
- Kyiv / Zhmerinka — Shostka
- Zaporizhzhia — Lviv
- Sumy — Rakhiv
The “3000 km across Ukraine” program is part of the state initiative “Winter Support.” The first trains under this program were launched on December 5, primarily focusing on routes to and from frontline communities.
As noted by Deputy Prime Minister for Ukraine's Recovery, Oleksii Kuleba, the support is planned to expand nationwide in the future.
“During off-peak seasons, Ukrzaliznytsia can offer around 250,000 seats per month. This creates conditions for affordable travel for Ukrainians and additionally reduces peak load,” the Minister stated.
Free travel within the 3,000 km is available during off-peak periods and focuses mainly on routes leading to frontline communities. Tickets can be purchased via the Ukrzaliznytsia app.
The program aims to support residents of communities located near the front line, allowing for a more even distribution of passenger flow and a more efficient use of existing railway transport resources. The routes for the pilot launch were determined based on an analysis of train occupancy, with particular emphasis on the needs of frontline regions. The implementation of the program is carried out without attracting additional state budget funds.
