Tragedy in Odesa: Balcony Collapse Claims Woman's Life
On November 25, a tragedy unfolded in the Primorsky district of Odesa: one of the two women injured in a balcony collapse died in the hospital within an hour and a half to two hours after being admitted. The other woman, born in 1969, is currently in intensive care with severe injuries including multiple rib fractures and spinal injuries.
According to Vladislav Severhin, the deputy medical director for surgical work at the hospital, the women fell from the third to the second floor during the collapse. The patient born in 1949 was in extremely critical condition with an open head injury, brain damage, multiple rib fractures, and right-sided pneumothorax; despite medical intervention, she succumbed.
"The second patient, born in 1969, has multiple injuries: rib fractures from the 3rd to 12th, right-sided pneumothorax, transverse process fractures of the spine, and contusive wounds to the limbs," Severhin said.
The doctor describes her condition as serious but somewhat stabilized, as she is in intensive care after experiencing both physical and psychological shock from the fall. Preliminary reports indicate that the victims are not related; it is likely that one was visiting the other. Relevant services continue to investigate the causes of the balcony collapse at the scene.
