Energy Crisis Challenges for Kyivstar

20 November 2025

The CEO of the mobile operator "Kyivstar", Alexander Komarov, stated that the company is experiencing one of its most challenging periods regarding electricity supply since the summer of 2024, with about 30% of its network without power. Komarov shared this information on his Facebook page.
According to him, 5 regional technology centers are operating on generators. Overall, the network runs on battery backups (BBUs) and generators, with approximately 4% of sites losing functionality.
He also advised internet users of "Kyivstar" to ensure their routers have backup power to help alleviate network strain during blackouts.
"As of mid-November, only 15-20% of Home Internet subscribers have arranged backup power for their routers. During a recent complete blackout in the Poltava region, the client reserve was only 2%.
Everything is interconnected: users are switching to mobile internet, increasing the load on base stations, reducing their autonomous operation time, and degrading the quality of mobile communication and data transfer rates," he noted.
