New Coin Release: Year of the Horse
The National Bank of Ukraine has unveiled a new coin dedicated to the "Year of the Horse" with a denomination of 5 hryvnias. This coin will be available for purchase starting November 4. The announcement was made on November 3 by the bank's press service.
According to Chinese astrology, the year 2026 will be under the sign of the Fire Horse.
"Our coin "Year of the Horse" is dedicated to this symbol. The horse is the seventh sign of the Eastern calendar, representing activity, vitality, independence, endurance, and determination. It also embodies dynamism, decisiveness, and the pursuit of freedom", — the statement reads.
Coin Design
On the reverse of the coin, there is a stylized symbol of the Eastern calendar for 2026 – a horse against a horseshoe backdrop, symbolizing luck. Beneath this image, three dots are depicted, symbolizing the continuation of struggle.
"The mane of the horse conveys the dynamic motion "with the wind" or "against the wind" – a metaphor for inner strength and the desire for freedom", — explained the NBU.
On the obverse of the coin, twelve symbols of the Eastern calendar are represented around the edge, while the center features a stylized clock with a hand indicating the zodiac sign leading in 2026.
The design was created by artist Marina Kuts and sculptor Volodymyr Atamanchuk.
