Celebrating Engineering Troops in Ukraine
On November 3rd, Ukraine honors its engineering troops.
This day was established by a decree from the President of Ukraine on October 27, 1999.
Engineering troops provide essential engineering support to units across all branches of the Armed Forces of Ukraine.
They are categorized as special forces within the overall structure of the military.
Engineering troops lead attacks during wartime, ensuring the advancement of infantry and tank units. They clear paths through enemy minefields, remove debris and obstacles, and conduct demining operations to facilitate troop movements.
In peacetime, they focus on detecting and neutralizing mines, shells, and grenades, as well as disposing of outdated military equipment and munitions.

The Minister of Defense of Ukraine, Denys Shmyhal, congratulated military engineers on their professional holiday.
"Engineering troops serve as a shield that protects the lives of our defenders. They are the foundation of our defense and the driving force of our offensives," he noted on social media.
The Minister added that military engineers construct positions, build fortifications, bridges, and crossings, clear minefields, and ensure the safe advance of Ukrainian soldiers.
Shmyhal expressed gratitude for their courage, professionalism, and resilience in the toughest conditions.
"We bow our heads in memory of the fallen engineering soldiers who sacrificed their lives for Ukraine's freedom and independence," he added.
