Global Outages Affect Popular Apps
On the morning of October 20, numerous well-known applications and websites suddenly experienced functionality issues, as reported by Independent.
According to DownDetector, the most significant problems were reported in apps like Snapchat, Roblox, Fortnite, Duolingo, and Canva.
The disruptions began around 10 AM Kyiv time or midnight Pacific time.
These issues are likely linked to problems in Amazon Web Services (AWS), which provide the underlying infrastructure for many modern online services.
The company has already indicated an "increase in errors" and delays for several AWS services.
Amazon Web Services offers a variety of infrastructure services that allow businesses to rent computers and servers to run their applications and websites.
Thus, any issues in AWS can quickly impact a significant portion of other web resources, causing problems for sites that may not have any direct connection to Amazon.
Currently, AWS is the leading provider of such cloud services worldwide.
Last year, the company generated $108 billion in revenue, and it now accounts for a large portion of Amazon's profits.
Amazon Web Services stated that they are still investigating the cause of the issues.
“Engineers were immediately deployed and are actively working to resolve the issue and fully understand its root cause,” the company stated in their latest update.
