Mass Death of Silver Carp in Odesa Region
A tragic incident has occurred in the Odesa region with a mass death of silver carp. This was reported by the State Agency for Melioration and Fisheries of Ukraine.
The Odesa Fish Protection Patrol received a notification about the mass death of aquatic resources in a body of water within the village of Zherebkove in the Podilskyi district.
To verify the information and take appropriate action, fish wardens, together with local authorities, representatives of the State Environmental Inspection, the State Service of Ukraine on Food Safety and Consumer Protection, and the State Emergency Service, quickly arrived at the scene.
During a visual inspection of the water body, the fish patrol found a significant number of dead young silver carp. The water had an unnatural color – a bright pink hue.
Following the inspection of the water body, fish wardens prepared the necessary act. To determine the causes of the aquatic resources' death, samples of water were collected by the State Environmental Inspection for laboratory research.
Currently, specialists from the Odesa Fish Protection Patrol continue to monitor the situation in the water body.
