Mild Earthquake in Romania Felt in Odesa Region
A mild earthquake measuring 3.4 magnitude occurred in the Vrancea seismic zone in Romania at a depth of 125.7 km. Although the epicenter was located in Romania, light tremors may have been felt in the Odesa region.
Today, October 13, 2025, a morning earthquake in Romania's Vrancea zone had effects that could be felt in the Odesa area. According to the Romanian National Institute of Earth Physics (INFP), the tremor was recorded at 08:36:22 local time, which aligns with Kyiv's time. Such events can pose risks to southern parts of Ukraine, particularly Odesa, due to its proximity to this active seismic zone.
According to reports, "The earthquake occurred near the following cities: 30 km west of Focsani, 68 km north of Buzau, 80 km east of Sfantu Gheorghe, 84 km southwest of Barlad, 89 km southwest of Bacau, and 94 km east of Brasov.".
Information from INFP indicates that the earthquake's magnitude was 3.4 on the Richter scale, and its focus was at a significant depth of 125.7 km. While this earthquake is classified as mild and likely did not cause damage in Romania, deep tremors in Vrancea are often characterized by a wide radius of seismic wave propagation. This suggests that residents in the northern and central areas of Odesa, especially those living in high-rise buildings, may have experienced light tremors.
