Commemoration of Unknown Heroes in Ukraine

30 August 2025

The event was attended by Interior Minister Ihor Klymenko, Chairman of the Verkhovna Rada Ruslan Stefanchuk, Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of Ukraine Oleksandr Syrskyi, Deputy Prime Minister for Reconstruction Oleksii Kuleba, Defense Minister Denys Shmyhal, Minister for Veterans Affairs Natalia Kalmykova, and Deputy Head of the President's Office Pavlo Palisa.

The President listened to the report by the spokesperson of the Ministry of Veterans Affairs Hennadiy Popenko. The memorial has already established sectors for honorary burials, built two columbaria, laid engineering networks, and created an access road. Visitors will have access to parking and a shuttle service that will run regularly. The President arrived today using this shuttle.

A designated area has been allocated for the burial of soldiers whose names are currently unknown. A Memorial Alley is also being created here.

The memorial's uniqueness lies in standardized burials. Initially, a temporary cross inspired by Cossack monuments will be installed, and after a year, a permanent gravestone in the shape of a cross or plaque will be placed. The final choice will be made by the relatives of the deceased.

Today, five defenders, whose names are not yet established, were buried. The memorial will continue to accommodate the burials of unknown heroes.

The memory of the fallen soldiers was honored with a moment of silence.
