Barrier-Free Routes in Odesa: New Initiatives
Odesa is actively working on creating barrier-free routes in line with a national initiative. At the Cabinet of Ministers meeting on August 20, an important resolution was adopted, establishing procedures for planning and equipping accessible transport and pedestrian paths.
This document organizes the process and opens up opportunities for scaling the initiative across the country. Currently, 15 communities are participating in the pilot project of the Ministry of Development called 'Movement without Barriers'. Routes are being developed by local authorities in collaboration with architects, project managers, and civic organizations.
The Ministry of Development coordinates this process. Odesa consistently ranks among the leaders in implementing these activities.
During an online meeting chaired by the Vice Prime Minister of Ukraine, Oleksiy Kuleba, the progress of the project in Odesa was discussed, including updates on the accessible route signage and the alignment of project documentation for its first phase.
‘In collaboration with the ministry and relevant experts, the city is steadily moving towards implementing modern accessibility solutions that make Odesa more accessible for everyone,’ noted acting Deputy Mayor Serhiy Kotsyuba.
