Swallows of Odesa: New Nests and Survival Stories

In Odesa, within the 'Tuzly Limans' National Nature Park, 11 nests built by rural swallows have been discovered this year. Scientists observed these birds closely and recorded a total of 35 chicks this season.

This was reported by Ivan Rusev, the head of the research department at the 'Tuzly Limans' National Nature Park.

One pair of swallows opted to build a new nest on the skeleton of a dolphin killed by the war. “This skeleton, along with others found along the Black Sea coast, serves as a reminder of the brutal war waged by Russia against Ukraine, during which thousands of dolphins perished”, – wrote Ivan Rusev. The chicks are expected to be ready for flight by August 15, and in September, they will migrate south to warmer climates in Africa.
