Starlink Mobile Services Launching in Ukraine: A New Era of Connectivity
Ukraine will be the first European nation to introduce Starlink mobile services. The messaging system will be operational by the end of the year, while satellite broadband access is expected to roll out in mid-2026.
This information comes from Reuters, citing Alexander Komarov, the CEO of Kyivstar.
Field trials have already commenced as part of an agreement finalized in late 2024 with Space. This will enable Elon Musk's company to provide direct communication services for mobile devices in Ukraine.
Communication will be facilitated through satellites equipped with modems, functioning similarly to cell towers, transmitting phone signals directly to smartphones.
"The first phase involves messaging through OTT technologies... meaning through WhatsApp, Signal, and other platforms," Komarov stated in an interview with Reuters in Rome.
According to him, this feature will be implemented by the year's end.
"And likely, by early 2026, we should be able to offer mobile satellite broadband... and voice services," added the Kyivstar director.
