Sea Mustard Thrives in Coastal Park

24 June 2025

In the National Nature Park “Tuzlivski Lymany,” a remarkable plant known as sea mustard (Cakile maritima) is currently in bloom and bearing fruit.

This was reported by park employee and biologist Dr. Ivan Rusyev.

Sea mustard is recognized for its resilience to harsh conditions and its vital role in forming and stabilizing coastal ecosystems. It thrives on beach plains and dunes, providing habitat and food for various animals.

The fruits of sea mustard can float and spread through seawater. The seeds of the plant contain oil that is used both in medicine and as a dietary supplement.
