Inauguration of the Memorial for Ukrainian Intelligence Officers in Kyiv

17 June 2025

The inauguration of a memorial dedicated to Ukrainian intelligence officers took place in Kyiv. This memorial honors the memory of the staff of the Main Intelligence Directorate and foreign volunteers who sacrificed their lives for Ukraine's freedom.

The central element of the memorial features the word Aeternitas (“Eternity”), inscribed in Latin and other languages, symbolizing the international nature of the struggle. Foreign volunteers from over 50 countries serve alongside Ukrainians in the intelligence ranks.

Two steles resembling wings and shields symbolize strength and resistance. Between them lies a quiet space where the names of fallen intelligence officers are engraved.

From an aerial view, the memorial takes the shape of an owl's eye, a symbol of eternal vigilance and protection.

The memorial was consecrated by His Beatitude Metropolitan Epiphaniy.

“Each of the fallen intelligence officers made the greatest sacrifice, giving their lives for the sake of Ukraine. This memorial is a sign of sacrificial love and the strength of spirit that guides us towards victory,” — noted Epiphaniy.

The memorial's author is sculptor Nazar Bilyk, who previously created the memorial for the Heroes of the Heavenly Hundred in Lviv.

“This memorial is about dignity and a silent dialogue. We aimed to create a space that feels the presence of those who will not return to us,” — Bilyk explained.

The memory of the fallen intelligence officers was honored with a moment of silence and a military salute. Lieutenant General Kyrylo Budanov, along with military personnel and relatives, laid flowers at the memorial.

“Many of our intelligence officers, unfortunately, returned on shields, but their exploits will live on forever,” — emphasized Budanov.

The general also expressed gratitude to everyone who contributed to the creation of the memorial. The words of Serhiy Chub, father of a posthumous Hero of Ukraine, reminded everyone of the price of freedom that Ukrainians pay every day.

The memorial will serve as a place to honor the fallen intelligence officers and be an integral part of military rituals.

Eternal memory and glory to military intelligence officers!
 Glory to Ukraine!
