Rare Butterfly Sighted in Odesa Region: The Great Saturnia
In the northern part of the Odesa region, a breathtaking nocturnal butterfly has been recorded - the Great Saturnia. This species is the largest butterfly in Europe, with a wingspan reaching up to 15 centimeters.
The South-Western District Environmental Inspection announced this via their Telegram channel. According to their reports, the Great Saturnia (Saturnia pyri), also known as the pear-eyed moth, was observed near the village of Bashtanky in the Podilskyi district.
This butterfly captivates observers with its size and beauty. Its wings are adorned with distinctive "eyes", giving it the name "peacock eye". During the day, the Saturnia hides, while at night it reveals its grandeur to those watching.

Experts note that the emergence of such a rare species may indicate favorable ecological conditions in the region. The butterfly chooses habitats with minimal human impact and preserved natural ecosystems.
