Inclusive Transportation Initiatives in Odessa

06 May 2025

The Mayor of Odessa, Gennady Trukhanov, participated in a meeting of the Ministry of Community and Regional Development of Ukraine, chaired by Deputy Prime Minister Oleksiy Kuleba.

The agenda included the establishment of transportation and pedestrian routes in 15 pilot cities.

Odessa has joined the flagship project «Movement Without Barriers» by launching Ukraine's longest inclusive tram route «North-South».

«Over the past few years, we have been conducting comprehensive work: replacing tracks, modernizing key transport hubs, and renewing the rolling stock.  Besides tram services, an inclusive pedestrian route is also planned. Currently, a thorough inspection of the relevant locations is underway, and 127 million UAH has already been allocated. The city will cover a significant portion of the costs, but we also expect support from regional authorities and the state», noted Odessa's mayor Gennady Trukhanov.

The mayor emphasized the importance of creating an inclusive space in the coastal area, which is an integral part of developing an accessible environment in Odessa. Specifically, the construction of special ramps, beach areas, and adapted infrastructure for people with disabilities and low-mobility groups is ongoing.

We are making the urban space comfortable and accessible for everyone, including barrier-free seaside recreation.
