Breast Cancer Awareness Day in Odesa: Free Health Checks

22 October 2024

Last week, medical facilities in Odesa hosted a Breast Cancer Prevention and Early Detection Day, supported by the Odesa City Health Department in honor of the National Breast Cancer Awareness Day.

Women had the opportunity to receive free clinical breast examinations and consultations from family doctors, therapists, surgeons, and oncologists. Additionally, doctors from diagnostic centers provided mammography and ultrasound examinations for those who visited without electronic referrals.

As a result of the event, a total of 1822 women underwent preventive mammological check-ups. There were 669 referrals made for mammograms and 388 for ultrasounds. 170 women were referred for additional consultations with mammologists.

On the day of the action, 97 women underwent free preventive mammographic examinations by self-referral, which allowed for the timely detection of 8 cases with suspected breast cancer. All patients were referred for consultation and further examination at specialized medical facilities.

Remember! Women over 40 should have screening mammograms annually, even in the absence of symptoms. Early diagnosis can identify pre-cancerous conditions and malignant tumors at early stages, which are successfully treatable.

Odesa's medical facilities have been equipped with modern mammography machines funded by the city budget, and a unique Family Health Center has been established at the diagnostic center No. 6 for comprehensive diagnosis and treatment of breast diseases.
