Training on Early Detection of Developmental Disorders in Children

19 December 2024

Health and social care representatives from Odessa participated in a workshop focused on identifying developmental disorders in preschool children. This event was organized by the Odessa Regional Organization for Medical-Psychological-Pedagogical Assistance "Healthy Society" as part of the project "Resilient Families, Resilient Future: Transforming Child Care Systems in Odessa and Mykolaiv Regions," supported by the United Nations Children's Fund (UNICEF).

The main goal of the workshop was to further implement developmental screenings and refine the algorithm for successfully identifying families in need of early intervention services.

Early intervention is a comprehensive interdisciplinary support system for families with children from birth to four years old who have developmental disorders or are at risk of such disorders. Integrating child development methods into daily life and enhancing family members' life skills helps to address identified issues and fosters the child's adaptation to society.

"Odessa is recognized as a leading city in implementing early intervention services. Collaborative efforts of specialists will enhance health and improve the quality of life for children in need of early intervention services," said Tatiana Kutas, UNICEF's early intervention project coordinator.
