Revitalization of Odesa Infectious Disease Hospital
Renovation works at the Odesa Infectious Disease Hospital are ongoing.
This medical institution, established between 1802 and 1804 under the initiative of Duke Richelieu, is one of the oldest in Ukraine and plays a crucial role in combating infectious diseases in the South.
The hospital serves residents of Odesa, the surrounding region, and internally displaced persons. In recent years, it has been actively modernizing to become an effective medical center ready for any challenges.
As part of the recovery program for Ukraine, implemented by the government and the European Investment Bank, work continues in two buildings of the hospital.
In the Valikhovsky building, an architectural monument, all structural elements will be reinforced during renovations, and authentic interior details and marble stairs will be restored. Currently, demolition, strengthening of structures, reinforcement, and concrete work are underway.
This hospital wing will have its internal layout redesigned according to modern standards, and all old engineering systems will be completely replaced.
In the administrative building, the roof has been replaced, and facade restoration work is nearing completion. Inside the building, partition installation, interior finishing, and replacement of engineering systems—ventilation, water supply, sewage, and electricity—are in progress.
Besides funding from the European Bank, other hospital buildings are being repaired with city budget funds. The final stage involves renovating a two-story children's wing, where a modern ward with 82 beds is being created.
Additionally, the city budget is financing the upgrade of the drainage system and the reinforcement and waterproofing of the foundation of the bacteriological laboratory.
