Honoring Medical Heroes in Ukraine
In the fight for human lives, nothing could stop them – only the cessation of their hearts.
This was reported by the Ministry of Health.
On July 10, Ukraine celebrates the inaugural Day of Remembrance for fallen medical personnel. This initiative comes from the team behind the Award «Order of Saint Panteleimon», launched this year to honor medical workers who lost their lives during the full-scale war.
Doctors on the frontlines and in frontline areas, who risked their lives under fire to save our soldiers, as well as those in the rear who worked during air raid alarms, in operating rooms without electricity, and in bomb shelters. They fought day and night for the lives of both children and adults in Ukraine. Sadly, many of them lost their own lives. The number of such medical workers is in the hundreds.
According to the Order of Saint Panteleimon, during the three years of the war, Russia has killed at least five hundred Ukrainian medical professionals. These include doctors, nurses, paramedics, and combat medics. They became targets for the enemy on the battlefield, in stabilization points, in operating rooms and offices, on the streets, at home, and on their way to work.
To preserve the memory of each fallen worker, the Order of Saint Panteleimon is implementing the project «Light of Memory», aimed at honoring those medical personnel who sacrificed their lives while performing their duties. As part of this project, in collaboration with the National Scientific Medical Library of Ukraine and regional partners, information about the deceased medical workers is being collected and systematized.
If you are aware of a fallen medical worker on the front lines or in the rear, in a civilian or military hospital, please send information to the email: medlib@library.gov.ua
Be sure to include in the subject of the email: «Light of Memory».
Today, July 10, at 14:00, a signal – the sound of a heart stopping – will resonate in hospitals and medical facilities across Ukraine. Following this, there will be a minute of silence. This is a sign of gratitude, respect, and mourning for the fallen medical workers.
Let us remember. Let us give thanks. Let us honor.
Eternal and bright memory to the fallen medical workers.
