Odessa and UITP: Exploring New Transportation Opportunities
The Mayor of Odessa, Gennadiy Trukhanov, held a working meeting with the Secretary General of the International Association of Public Transport (UITP), Mr. Mohamed Mezghani, during the largest international transport exhibition, InnoTrans - 2024, in Berlin.
During the meeting, the parties addressed the challenges that Odessa has faced in recent years, including the necessity of renewing the rolling stock of electric transport and buses, increased pressure on the transport network due to rising passenger numbers, issues of inclusion, the transition to cashless payments, and blackout risks.
Mr. Mezghani expressed his full support and willingness to assist Odessa in tackling its transport issues. He noted that UITP unites more than 1900 member organizations from over 100 countries around the world, including city administrations, operating organizations, and transport operators.
Following the discussions, it was decided that Odessa would submit a request for bus fleet renewal, and UITP would help to implement this as part of humanitarian assistance.
Additionally, both parties agreed to participate in a joint stand for the cities of Odessa and Hamburg at the international UITP Summit in Hamburg next year.
