Revamping GPT-5: A Shift in Personality Approach
13 August 2025
OpenAI is preparing significant updates to its GPT-5 model following a wave of negative feedback from users. Sam Altman mentioned on X that the company aims to make the new model "friendlier" but less "irritating" than GPT-4o.
This decision comes after criticism on social media, where users complained about the new version's overly "corporate" demeanor compared to previous iterations. Many noted that GPT-5 seems less natural in conversation and has lost the "personality" that previous versions possessed.
It’s important to remember that shortly after the release of GPT-5, OpenAI allowed paying users to revert to GPT-4o via model selection. Users expressed that they felt they lost not just a tool but a companion after upgrading to GPT-5.
