Starlink Service Disruptions Explained

28 July 2025

SpaceX has clarified that the recent significant outages in Starlink services were caused by a software update. According to the company, during the update process, the ground computational clusters were overloaded, leading to failures in key services. This was reported by PCMag.

The outages began on July 24 at around 10 PM Kyiv time and affected users worldwide, including Ukrainian military personnel. During peak hours, Starlink serves over 6 million customers globally. The majority managed to regain access to the network within 2.5 hours, but some subscribers reported connectivity issues extending into the next day. This marked the longest outage for Starlink since its launch.

After the restoration, some users noticed improvements in connection speeds — reaching 250 Mbps and above, while previously average speeds were around 110–150 Mbps. This led to speculation that the update aimed at enhancing network performance.

Meanwhile, other users continue to report issues with speed and stability. On the Starlink support page, it is currently advised to reboot the hardware, including third-party devices.
