Meta has unveiled a new version of its innovative sEMG-RD bracelet in the journal Nature. This device can read electrical signals from muscles on the skin's surface and translate them into digital commands, allowing users to navigate their computers, move cursors, or open applications. Gizmodo reports on this development.

The latest prototype can quickly adapt to new users without lengthy training, a feature that previous versions lacked. This is made possible by cutting-edge neural network algorithms that analyze signals and create a personalized control model.

Additionally, developers showcased the ability to recognize gesture strength, which enhances interaction with virtual objects. This opens up new possibilities for use in VR and AR environments. The bracelet can also read hand-written text at a speed of 20.9 words per minute.

Meta has been working on such interfaces since 2021. The current version of the bracelet is one of the most promising developments in alternative control methods that do not require physical controllers or cameras. This solution could be particularly beneficial for individuals with disabilities.
