Microsoft Enhances Data Protection for European Users
On June 16, Microsoft announced that data from its European cloud service clients will be stored within Europe, adhering to local regulations and under the operational oversight of local staff, ensuring full user control, as reported by Reuters.
The publication notes that European businesses and governments are increasingly concerned about the potential transfer of their data outside the continent, particularly to the United States. This has prompted American companies like Microsoft to implement new protective measures.
In April, Microsoft had already unveiled plans to enhance user data protection as part of its expansion of cloud and AI infrastructure in Europe. These plans included compliance with European laws designed to restrict the influence of large tech firms.
On June 16, the company stated that any remote access by Microsoft engineers to systems storing and processing European data would occur only with permission and under the supervision of staff located in the EU, in real-time.
Additionally, Microsoft noted that its sovereign private cloud is currently in limited access mode, with a full launch for all users scheduled for later this year.
