New Microsoft Edge Feature for Secure Password Sharing
Microsoft has unveiled an innovative feature for the Edge for Business browser that allows administrators to securely share encrypted passwords without the risk of exposure. According to MSPowerUser, this technology enables centralized credential management through the Microsoft 365 admin center.
Administrators can create user groups, add encrypted login data, and automatically deploy them across browsers on managed Windows devices. Employees can access passwords via the Edge password manager, utilizing the autofill feature without the ability to view or edit them.
To safeguard data, Microsoft applies the Microsoft Information Protection SDK, which encrypts passwords using keys tied to an Entra identifier. Decryption occurs only after identity verification.
Moreover, administrators have the ability to instantly revoke access to passwords, after which they will disappear from users' browsers. Additionally, if users attempt to view passwords through developer tools, the company can block this action.
This new feature is available for free as part of Microsoft 365 Business Premium, E3, and E5 subscriptions. To activate it, one must create or modify the Edge configuration policy in the Microsoft 365 admin center.
This solution aims to enhance the security of corporate data and simplify account management without adding strain to the infrastructure.
