Google Enhances Chrome's Fraud Protection Features

09 May 2025

Google has recently updated the Enhanced Protection feature in its Chrome browser. The new version of Chrome for PCs now includes the Gemini Nano language model, which aids in identifying new types of fraud, such as fake tech support. According to the company, this model operates directly on the user's computer and can detect dangers that were previously unnoticed. Engadget reports on this development.

Google claims that Gemini Nano effectively recognizes complex websites, allowing for rapid responses to emerging fraud schemes. The company also intends to integrate this technology into Android devices and, in the future, use it to combat other forms of online threats.

Additionally, Android users will benefit from improved protection against fraudulent notifications in Chrome. Google is again leveraging machine learning technologies that operate directly on phones. If the system identifies a suspicious notification, Chrome will issue a warning and offer either to view it or unsubscribe. If the block is found to be erroneous, notifications from that site can be allowed moving forward.

Combating fraud remains one of Google's key priorities. For instance, last May, the company showcased a new feature that provides real-time fraud alerts during phone calls. Recently, the "Messages" app has also been updated to include new protective features. Google states that these measures allow it to thwart hundreds of millions of fraudulent attempts before they reach users.
