Competition for the Lesya Ukrainka Monument in Odesa
In August 2025, the Odesa City Council decided to hold a competition for the best project proposal for a monument to Lesya Ukrainka in Odesa, along with the landscaping of the adjacent area.
The organizer of the competition was the Department of Architecture and Urban Planning of the Odesa City Council.
The main goal of the competition is to identify the best project proposal for a monument to the outstanding Ukrainian writer and poet, as well as to develop an architectural plan for the landscaping of the area.
The competition was conducted in one round until January 30, 2026. It invited professional architects, sculptors, designers, as well as students from architectural universities and project organizations. Teams could also include specialists from other fields with experience in creating monumental art objects.
The Department of Architecture and Urban Planning of the Odesa City Council has summarized the results of the competition for the best project proposal for the Lesya Ukrainka monument.
A total of 12 project proposals were submitted for the competition.
The jury recommended the work that took first place for further development of project documentation and implementation.
The first place went to the project proposal under the motto No. 201953 (authors – sculptor Mykola Bylyk, architects Andriy Korstruba, Mariya Matushenko, Oleksandr Vovk).
The second place was awarded to the project proposal under the motto No. 704020 (authors – sculptors Viktor Lipovka, Oleksandra Ruban, architects Andriy Danilenko, Kateryna Lipovka).
The third place was taken by the work under the motto No. 250271 (authors – sculptor Anastasiia Kozminska, architects Mykola Chepelev, Mykola Volkov).
According to the competition rules, cash prizes will be awarded to the author teams.
By the decision of the Odesa City Council, the location for the monument to Lesya Ukrainka has been established in the park at the corner of Fontanska Road and Lesya Ukrainka Avenue (formerly Gagarin Avenue).
