Odesa Youth Theater Achieves Academic Status

The Odesa Youth Theater named after Yuri Olesha has been granted the esteemed title of an academic theater, recognizing its substantial contributions to Ukrainian culture.

Key Highlights:

• The theater has been awarded a new academic status recognized at the national level;
• The order was signed by the Ministry of Culture of Ukraine on June 17, 2025.
• This academic status opens up new avenues for the theater: expanding creative projects and receiving additional support.
• The status was conferred to the communal creative team «Odesa Youth Theater named after Yuri Olesha». The corresponding order No. 494 was signed on June 17, 2025.

This recognition affirms the high professionalism of the theater’s team, which has worked for many years with youth audiences, implementing educational projects, participating in festivals, and staging educational performances.

Receiving the academic status provides the theater with new opportunities, including additional state support, expanded creative activities, and a strengthened role in the cultural life of the area.

Since 1919, the title of «academic» has been awarded to the oldest and most distinguished theaters in Ukraine. The Odesa Youth Theater was established in 1930 by graduates of the Odesa Theater School, and in 2021, the Odesa Regional Administration appealed to the Ministry of Culture to grant the theater academic status.
